Jumbo vs. Mini Squishies: Building a Price Ladder That Sells
July 18, 2026
A common mistake with squishies is stocking a single size at a single price. The product looks fine on the shelf, but you're only serving one kind of buyer. Sizes are how this category segments itself.
The three rungs
Mini: pocket-money territory. Kids buy these themselves. Minis also work as add-ons — "grab one more" at the register.
Standard: the parent-approved impulse buy. This is your volume rung and should get the most facings.
Jumbo: the gift and reward purchase. Lower unit velocity, noticeably better dollar margin per sale, and it makes the whole display look more impressive.
Why the jumbo earns its shelf space even if it sells slowly
A jumbo squishy is a visual anchor. It draws the eye from farther away than a tray of minis ever will, and it makes the standard size look reasonably priced by comparison — a well-known anchoring effect. Even one or two jumbo facings lift the perceived value of everything below them.
Keep the ratio honest
Order roughly in proportion to how they sell: more standard than mini, more mini than jumbo. If your first order is one case of each, expect to reorder the standard size first — that's normal, not a mistake in the assortment.
Displaying the ladder
Stack vertically: jumbo on top or at the back, standard at eye level, minis in a grab tray at kid height. Price every tier visibly. The ladder only works when a buyer can compare all three prices at a glance.
Frequently asked questions
Should a small shop stock jumbo squishies if they sell slowly?
Yes, in small numbers. A jumbo is a visual anchor: it draws attention from across the store and makes standard sizes look reasonably priced. One or two facings is enough — the volume comes from the standard tier.
What ratio of mini, standard, and jumbo squishies should I order?
Order in proportion to how they sell: most of the budget on standard sizes, a solid tray of minis, and a couple of jumbos as anchors. Expect to reorder the standard size first — check current sizes and case quantities in the catalog.
