What Is a Case Pack? Wholesale Basics for New Retailers
July 12, 2026
Every wholesale catalog assumes you know its vocabulary — case packs, inners, case pricing — and never explains it. If you're opening your first store or placing your first bulk order, here's the missing glossary.
The terms
Case pack (or case quantity): how many units the manufacturer ships in one carton — say, 12 or 24. It exists for packing efficiency, not to torment you.
Case price: the discounted price for buying a full case, usually meaningfully below the single-unit wholesale rate. The per-unit saving is the reward for buying in the manufacturer's rhythm.
Display pack: a case designed to open into a ready-made counter display — common with impulse toys. You're buying stock and fixture in one box.
Item Code / SKU: the product's unique identifier. Reorder by code and you get the identical item — the habit that makes restocking painless.
Should you always buy full cases?
When you're confident, yes — the case price is better math. When you're testing, no. A supplier with no minimum order (we're one) lets you buy singles or partial quantities to trial a product, then step up to case buying once it proves itself. Testing at case scale is how new stores end up with a wall of something nobody wanted.
Reading a listing like a buyer
When you see "case of 12 · case price $X," do two quick sums: the per-unit cost at case price, and what that unit sells for in your store. The gap is your gross margin, and it — not the discount percentage — is what pays your rent. Wholesale fluency is really just doing that little sum, every time, until it's reflex.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to buy full cases when ordering wholesale?
Not with us — the general catalog has no minimum order, so you can buy singles to test. Full cases earn the better per-unit case price once a product proves itself.
What's the difference between case price and unit price?
Case price is the discounted rate for buying the manufacturer's full carton (say, 12 or 24 units); unit price is the slightly higher rate for smaller quantities. Both are real wholesale — the spread rewards buying in the packing rhythm.
